National Parks Week - Monday July 30th - Sunday August 5th 2007 25th Jul 2007

Monday is the start of National Parks Week when the public -particularly families and young people - are invited to get out and celebrate the beauty of Britain's countryside.

The Broads - East Anglia's National Park plus - will be hosting a wealth of events, both on and off the water, to give people the chance to experience the tranquillity, rare wildlife and unique beauty of the UK's largest protected wetland.

Boating is the best way to explore the 122 miles of slow flowing waterways so why not jump aboard a majestic Edwardian wherry which is giving trips on August 1st , 2nd and 3rd in the Horning and Wroxham area.

At the other end of the scale you might like to take a guided canoe trail on July 31st to get close to the watery wildlife on the tranquil River Thurne, and walk back overland with a Broads Authority Countryside Ranger. Refreshments are provided. Cost:£15 adults, £8 children. To book contact: 01692 670779.

On August 3rd 8.30pm -11.30pm a bat and moth evening is being held at the Eels Foot Inn beside Ormesby Little Broad. A bat expert will give a slide show about the bats to be found on the Broads while you enjoy a drink at the bar. You will then take a boat to watch and listen for bats on the broad, and learn about creatures that arrive in the moth trap from a local expert. Cost:£5. Contact: 01692 670779.

On August 4th there will be family fun at Hoveton Riverside Park Open Day with countryside, wildlife and water based activities. The Wherry Hathor will be on view with other entertainment.

For more details about the events contact the Broads Authority on 01603 610734 or visit www.broads-authority.gov.uk, or www.nationalparks.gov.uk.
